There are not just five senses (sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell), but also a sixth: intuition. Intuition arises out of a synergy of the five traditional senses, from a fusion of their higher aspects. Each of our six senses is under-developed, and we can all learn to exploit the rich input they provide about the world in which we live. They each have a higher dimension, too, that leads to profound creativity.

CREATIVITY AND THE SIX SENSES re-empowers us by rescuing us from the endless commercial exploitation of our senses. Instead, it helps us develop our senses from within ourselves. It is both totally practical and subtly spiritual.

This book describes simple techniques - exercises and visualisations - that enable us to develop each of our senses. It aims to help us use our senses more creatively in our homes, kitchens and gardens, in the studio and beyond in the wider world. Jennie shows how we can fine tune and enhance our senses, and fuse them in a wonderful synthesis that allows ingenuity and creativity to thrive.

Sensory awareness can help relieve stress, is therapeutic and so can be useful in the care of others. This book is a companion along a rich path of sensory discovery that could lead to the unleashing of unimagined creativity.

Jennie Harding is the author of another title in this series, INCENSE, and of SECRETS OF AROMATHERAPY (Dorling Kindersley), HOLISTIC HERBS (Marks & Spencer), AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE FOR YOU (Duncan Baird) and many other books in the field of fragrance and massage. She lives in London.

REVIEWS

The first five chapters of this fascinating book focus on our five senses of touch, taste, sight, hearing and smell - explaining how they work and how we can enhance our sensory experiences. The sixth chapter shows the way to develop our 'sixth sense' by extending the first five to the point where our heightened perceptions are able to 'awaken to new levels of life and being'. Recommended reading.

YOGA SCOTLAND

In CREATIVITY AND YOUR SIX SENSES, Jennie Harding has written a very comprehensive little book about the enhancement of our five senses, which leads on to developing the sixth sense. She writes about each of the five senses - sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell - and gives activities for each that helps us to use them with more sensitivity. She rightly points out that modern living, with its widespread use of synthetic chemicals and over-stimulation through noise, advertising and the media, has caused us to close down the senses to some extent.

Learning to develop them is very therapeutic, and as our ability grows, we also become more creative, thus involving the use of a sixth sense, intuition. By training ourselves to use all our senses, we can then, according to White Eagle, train ourselves to contact the inner world, the world of spirit. (See white eagle on the great spirit, W.E.P.T., 2003) I would highly recommend CREATIVITY AND YOUR SIX SENSES as a companion book to much of the White Eagle philosophy. It can be used with adult groups to develop the inner senses and also with young people, bringing fun and delight to children's' groups.
