Polair Publishing's Origins
'Polair' means 'of the Pole Star' and is somewhere between the French (Polaire) and the English (Polar-hence the polar bear). The Pole Star is the guiding star of the mariners. Spiritually, it is also the six-pointed star, the symbol of the creation of life, of balance, and of perfection.
In publishing terms, Polair seeks to broaden the concepts of the Mind/Body/Spirit bookselling category. Its list includes all subjects that promote the unfolding kinship human being feel with one another, and with the rest of life. It is the brainchild of Colum Hayward, for many years Senior Editor with the White Eagle Publishing Trust, and Richard Smith, formerly with Unilever.
Both Polair and the White Eagle work take inspiration from the early years of the Fraternité des Polaires, a group who were active in Paris and elsewhere in the 1920s and early 30s. Polair Publishing shares the Polair ideal of an ever-developing brotherhood-sisterhood among all life.
Polair Publishing's first title was published on 15 September 2003.
