Igniting Soul Fire

A Review by Kevin Briggs

This is not an introduction to the practical issues of the Bach flower remedies, but an essay on what they have come to mean for the author in terms of her spiritual path. The book begins by introducing us to five universal laws—rebirth, karma, opportunity, balance and correspondence. Coming from a background of healing with the Bach flower remedies, the author approaches Bach's teachings from a wider philosophical perspective, which incorporates other spiritual teachings from around the world. 'this new perspective b3ecomes important to our ability to embrace the core messages the flower remedies hold for our souls and the roles they play in igniting our soul's fire and purpose.'

The correspondence between the Twelve Great Remedies and the zodiac is revealed. The philosophy of the charkas is also combined in order to expand our awareness and ability to find further meaning within Bach's system. As well as linking the remedies to the signs, astrology is mentioned again when we find that Bach believed in a link between our natal Moon sign and our soul-type. His varying feelings about the issue of astrology and its relevance to his work are discussed here.

A chapter on the four elements deals with them through the medium of dragon symbolism, with each dragon symbolising the dilemmas and lessons to be gleaned from each element. Going way beyond the baside keyword analysis, these essays are a useful way in to the understanding of these pillars of esoteric lore.

Although there is enough here to keep most astrologers happy, astrology is evidently of peripheral interest to the author of this book, and the New-Age preoccupation with one's spiritual quest has a familiar scent. An interest in Bach and the flower remedies is a prerequisite.
